PIRKE AVOT -- ETHICS OF THE FATHERS
Join Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss as we engage with this ancient text that centers around the whys of life much more than the whats of Judaism.
- What does it mean when Rabbi Hillel would teach, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me?"
- What can we learn from what Rabbi Shimon would say: "I have lived all my life among the sages, and I have found nothing better for one's well being than silence?"
- Is there a point at which we can stop studying Torah if Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai would teach, "If you have learned much Torah, do not let it go to your head, since that is what you were created for?"

JUDAISM AND SEXUALITY
In a day and age when sex is as much about how cars and skin products are sold as it is about what goes on in our private lives, our tradition has a great amount to say to us.
Judaism has never been a tradition that promotes celibacy or Puritanism when it comes to sex. Neither, however, is it in the same vein as the Kama Sutra.
Join Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss for the next 6-week series of Reconfirmation. We will delve deeply into the texts of our tradition as we grapple with these and other challenging questions for our day:
- What do our ancestors have to teach us today about our sexual lives?
- Does God belong in the bedroom or not?
- What is kosher sex and who gets to decide?
- What of the tradition of Taharat HaMishpachah is still valid today for modern Jews? (Don’t know what that is? All the more reason to join us!)
- What does our tradition teach us about abortion, genetics, sex changes, adultery and any other pertinent issue we can squeeze in?
